The criticism of the author, which is most relevant for John Armleder’s works, was expressed in the work “Brooks Brothers 3 Piece Suit, Model 346" in the 1993 “Post Human” exhibition, three suits of a traditional New York tailors. The strictly frontal display like in a shop window inspired the basic concept in this picture, although spatially transposed graduation implies a shop space. In contrast to Armleder’s attempt to cause a collapse of authorship (“Death of an Author” in Postmodernism) here it is merely a photograph of a theoretical reality within an imaginary art history. There is not supposed to be an author, just as a tourist photograph must not necessarily be signed. |
